"How are you?"..."Busy!"

"My life is no longer than the width of my hand. An entire lifetime is just a moment to you; human existence is but a breath. We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy rushing ends in nothing. We heap up wealth for someone else to spend. And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you." (Psalm 39:5-7 NLT)

Are you finding that your response to this once simple question is the "B" word?   I do, and wondering if it was just me, I googled that very phrase and 361,000,000 results came up!   After scanning just the first 20 pages, I realized that yes indeed – busyness is in epidemic proportions. Some of the titles said things like:  Busy is the new “fine”;    Busy is the new black; I’m too busy to tell people how busy I am!; Have you fallen into the busy trap?; How can you tell if you’re too busy; Wearing busyness as a badge of honor;   If I’m not busy, I don’t matter.; Are kids today too busy to be kids…….

Psychology today has an article entitled:   Are you addicted to being busy?   Christian writer Tim Chester has a book entitled "The Busy Christian’s Guide to Busyness".   Even Socrates is quoted:  Beware the barrenness of a busy life.

So if we’re this busy, how do we find time for God -  and I don’t mean ministry and running from one bible study to the next, but really finding quality time with the Lord?   We can’t slow down the world, but we do need to slow our lives down long enough to hear from God.    Maybe you have heard this phrase:  “if the devil can’t hinder your relationship with God, he’ll simply make you busy”.  Scary thought!

Please watch this GodTube “Too Busy” and let’s all think about taking things a little slower: www.godtube.com/watch/?v=6PYWLNNX

Let’s ask ourselves:  "What am I giving my attention to?  What keeps me busy?" And then ask the Lord, "What do you want me to change? What is on my plate that you would have me remove?"

And pray:   Father, show me how to prioritize so that the way I spend my time and live my life in line with your will.  So, take my life. I know my busyness is affecting my family, my health and my peace of mind and help me to live your way.   In Jesus Name, Amen

"Come to Me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me--watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace." (Matthew 11:28, 29 MSG)
