A news headline pops up on my computer screen the other day: “Chris Pratt responds to Ellen Page’s criticism of ‘infamously anti-LGBTQ’ Hillsong Church.” Maybe some of you have followed this drama. Being naturally curious about things that affect the church, I read the article and a few others as well. Then, I even read the numerous comments which were almost universally against anything that would suggest that sin was sin.
Let me ask you a question, “What is the most ambitious New Years resolution you have heard this year? As a church, we want to have ambitious goals that propel us to help others experience Gospel transformation.
One goal that we believe God is leading us to focus on this next year is the area of outreach. How can we, as True Hope Church, build relationships, serve others and take advantage of opportunities to share the Gospel with our neighbors and to the 83702 and the 83703 zip codes?
Last week, a ten-year-old girl, unbeknownst to her mother, grabbed a tag off the Giving Tree at church. A few days later, she asked her mother if there was anything she could do to earn some extra money. This seemed curious to her mother, but she didn't think much of it until she was tucking her daughter into bed, noticing an envelope laying next to the bed. It contained $4 dollars and a $5 giving tree tag. Her daughter had been covertly setting aside her chore money from the last week. There was also a handwritten card for the missionary who would receive the gift. Mom could hardly contain her joy and her tears.
